Two Terms, Then New Leadership

I support a two-consecutive-term limit for municipal elected positions. Leadership should be an opportunity to serve, not a position to hold indefinitely. After two terms, it's time to give another qualified person the opportunity to lead, while allowing experienced elected officals to continue contributing as advisors or make them part of advisory team or committee. Fresh leadership bring New ideas and Better accountability.

My Proposal:

1. A municipal elected representative may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms in the same position.

2. After two terms, the position must be opened to another eligible winning candidate.

3. The former elected representative may remain a member of the committee or board, subject to the normal rules.

4. After sitting out at least one full term, the individual may be eligible to seek the position again.

5. The policy should apply consistently to Elected Council.

6. Exceptions should be limited to circumstances where there are not enough eligible candidates or where legislation requires otherwise.
